Subject: leave letter for condolence

Respected Sir,

I, Robert White, the Cashier working at your retail store am writing this letter to apply for a single day leave. I hope that you will consider this application and would grant me leave as soon as possible.

Sir, I am asking for this leave permission because my grandmother passed away yesterday evening and her funeral ceremony is on 21st June in Birmingham. I need to be present at this ceremony as I am her only grandchild. Without expressing my condolences at the ceremony, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on work. I promise to be back within a day and would be present at work the very next day.

I am asking for this leave not because I wish to fulfil a formality but because my grandmother was very close to me and it would mean a lot to her soul if I will be present to bid my goodbye to her. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely,

Robert White
