Validation of Debt Letter

By | July 1, 2014

A validation of debt letter is written by a consumer to a collecting agency for “debt verification” and to receive written verification of a debt from a debt collector.  This debt validation procedure helps to reduce the incidence of debt collectors dunning the wrong person or attempting to collect previously paid debts. Here is a sample of the validation of debt letter given below.

Dear Sir,

Subject: Validation of debt

Dear Sir,

I am hereby writing this letter in response to your notice dated 28th May 2014 for recovery of a debt taken by me. I would like to bring to your kind attention that I have already repaid this loan on 15th April 2014 and hold a closure letter from the credit card company.

I hereby request you to kindly take up a validation of my debt with immediate effect in order to provide me a clearance certificate for all dues. An outstanding debt letter like this can tarnish my image as a debtor which can prove to be detrimental for my financial credibility. I therefore request you to undertake a thorough investigation and give me a written debt validation at the earliest.

If your offices fail to respond to this validation request within 30 days from the date of your receipt, I would assume that all references to this account have been deleted and completely removed from my credit file and a copy of such deletion request shall be sent to me immediately.

This is an attempt to correct your records, any information obtained shall be used for that purpose only.
